Join us Sunday, September 22, for our FREE fall in-person gathering. We will gather informally starting at 2:30 PM in the cafeteria of the National Wildlife Federation Building, 11100 Wildlife Center Drive, in Reston. We welcome you to bring snacks and drinks to share. All are welcome!
At 3:00 PM we will address a brief NVBA business item that requires members to vote. Following that we will have a presentation with guest speaker Dr. Brian Evans, who will speak on the newly renovated Bird House at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo. The Bird House building now invites visitors to soar into the fascinating world of North American shorebirds, waterfowl, and songbirds. Visitors walk through three free-flight aviaries that are designed to suit species’ specific needs, so the birds exhibit their natural behaviors right in front of you. Dr. Evans will talk about how the Bird House is designed to encourage guests to explore the ecology of North America’s migratory birds and help save our declining bird populations. He also will discuss how he and his fellow researchers at the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center (SMBC) have sought to reveal the causes and solutions to bird decline. Registration is not required, but helps us know how many to expect. More information here.
