DNC OUTRAISES RNC FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS ELECTION CYCLE

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) outraised the Republican National Committee (RNC) in March 2020. This was the first time the DNC had a larger monthly total figure since October 2018, according to campaign finance reports filed with the Federal Election Commission.

** SENATE TO RECONVENE ON MAY 4, HOUSE CANCELS PLANS TO RETURN

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) announced in a Democratic caucus call Monday that the chamber would return to session on May 4, but canceled those plans Tuesday. The House had planned to join their colleagues in the U.S. Senate, who were already scheduled to return on May 4. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) confirmed the Senate’s return, saying, “We’re going to take whatever safeguards the Capitol physician recommends that we engage in and we believe we can do that safely.”

** HHS WILL NOT PENALIZE TELEHEALTH PROVIDERS FOR HIPAA VIOLATIONS DURING CORONAVIRUS EMERGENCY

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued a final rule ([link removed]) April 21 stating it would not penalize health care providers who use telehealth services in good faith during the COVID-19 public health emergency.

** MFUME WINS SPECIAL ELECTION IN MARYLAND'S 7TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT

Kweisi Mfume (D) defeated Kim Klacik (R) in the special election for Mayland’s 7th Congressional District. Mfume will fill the vacancy resulting from the death of Elijah Cummings (D) in October 2019.
