# More than 210,000 transgender citizens could face barriers to voting at the polls in the 2024 general election

([link removed])

An estimated 825,100 transgender adult citizens in the U.S. will be eligible to vote in the November 2024 general election. About 210,800 of them could encounter difficulty voting at the polls because they live in a voter ID state that primarily conducts their elections at the polls, and they do not have an ID that lists their correct name and/or gender. Approximately 91,300 of these transgender adults reside in states with the strictest forms of voter ID laws and could potentially be disenfranchised.

# Guide tracks shield laws for reproductive and gender-affirming health care

States seeking to preserve and expand access to abortion and gender-affirming care have passed
shield laws ([link removed])
that provide legal protections from punitive actions in other states. Currently, 23 states and D.C. have shield law protections related to reproductive health care, and 17 states and D.C. have shield law protections related to gender-affirming health care.

A new guide created by
UCLA ([link removed]), in partnership with the Williams Institute, provides a comprehensive analysis of the protections provided in each state's shield law.
