This week we are deeply honored to profile one of the most revered members of the New Hampshire community, Nancy Sununu, who recently passed away. A lifelong resident of New Hampshire, she became a respected figure in the state and throughout the country – driven by her deep commitment to family and community. As the wife of John H. Sununu, the 75th Governor of New Hampshire and former White House Chief of Staff under President George H.W. Bush, Nancy played a vital role behind the scenes, supporting her husband while raising and nurturing their eight children. Among those children were Chris Sununu, who would go on to serve as New Hampshire's Governor, and John E. Sununu, a former U.S. Congressman and Senator. Nancy’s influence was evident in the paths her sons took, each inspired by her quiet strength, unwavering integrity, and belief in public service. While John H. Sununu’s career took the family to the political front lines, Nancy remained the steadfast anchor at home. A teacher by training, she prioritized education, instilling in her children a love for learning and a strong sense of civic duty. Her support helped shape Chris's approachable leadership style as Governor and John's keen, thoughtful approach as a lawmaker in Congress. Nancy was also known for her grace and warmth, often hosting events at the Governor's residence with a welcoming spirit. Her charitable work, especially in education and children's welfare, left a meaningful impact in New Hampshire. Through it all, Nancy stayed humble, deeply rooted in her love for New Hampshire. She cherished the state's natural beauty and was happiest amidst its lakes and forests. Her life was marked by a quiet dedication that inspired not just her family but everyone who knew her.
