We are happy to announce that, beginning with tax year 2024, we will accept electronically submitted amended Minnesota Individual Income Tax returns from software vendors. This was a popular request over the last few years, and we?re excited we can now offer this option!

*Process Changes*

There is a new process for submitting an amended return:


* Complete Form M1 and any affected schedules using the corrected information
* Check the box on Form M1 indicating it is an amended return
* Complete Schedule M1X, Amended Minnesota Income Tax
* Submit Form M1, any affected schedules, and Schedule M1X

As in previous years, if an amended federal return was filed, you must also submit a complete copy of Form 1040X, Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Return including all corrected federal forms and schedules.

*Electronic Filing Is Not a Requirement*

We do not require companies offer electronic filing for amended returns. We have not begun the software certification process for 2024, so we cannot provide a list of companies who plan to offer this option to their customers.

*Amending Prior Year Returns*

You cannot electronically file amended returns for previous years. Amended returns for years prior to 2024 must be filed on paper using the previous process.
