Dear Neighbor,
As we mark the 23rd anniversary of September 11th, I want to reflect on the immense loss felt here in New Jersey, where we lost nearly 750 of our neighbors, friends, and family members. Though the pain remains, so does our resolve to honor their memory.
Our first responders, many from New Jersey, showed extraordinary courage that day. Heroes like James Zadroga paid with their health and, too often, their lives. I’ve fought to ensure these sacrifices are never forgotten, from passing the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act to securing additional funding for the World Trade Center Health Program. There’s still work ahead, and I remain committed to supporting those who continue to live with the effects of that day.
A Bipartisan Push to End Social Security Penalties
I recently signed onto a bipartisan discharge petition to bring the Social Security Fairness Act to the House floor for a vote. Provisions like the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO) have unfairly penalized our public servants—police officers, teachers, firefighters, and other workers—by reducing their hard-earned Social Security benefits. With support from 326 lawmakers, it’s time to right this wrong. I’m committed to ensuring New Jersey’s public servants receive the retirement security they deserve.
Securing Funding for Atlantic Highlands Road Safety
This week, I secured $850,000 in federal funding to replace the deteriorating retaining wall along Upper Prospect Road in Atlantic Highlands. This project is not just about infrastructure—it’s about safeguarding residents and maintaining essential access for daily commutes and emergency services. The wall’s condition poses a real risk, and this funding will prevent a collapse that could isolate a neighborhood. I’m proud to help protect our community and keep Atlantic Highlands moving forward.
Honoring Congressman Bill Pascrell’s Legacy
This week, I introduced legislation to honor my friend and colleague, the late Congressman Bill Pascrell Jr., by adding his name to Paterson Great Falls National Historical Park. The Great Falls is more than just a natural wonder; it represents New Jersey’s history and identity. Bill was instrumental in securing its designation as a National Historical Park in 2009, preserving Alexander Hamilton’s vision of Paterson as the birthplace of America’s manufacturing revolution.
In addition, I’m working to rename the grants under the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Program that Bill founded. His unwavering dedication to improving care for TBI survivors will be remembered through these efforts. Bill’s legacy as a champion for the people of Paterson and across New Jersey will endure.
Suicide Prevention
As we recognize National Suicide Prevention Month this September, it's a powerful reminder that we all have a role in saving lives. The 988 Lifeline is more than just a number—it’s a beacon of hope, providing a direct connection to those who need help the most.
When I chaired the Energy and Commerce Committee, I led the charge to create the 988 National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, making it simpler for anyone in crisis to reach a trained mental health professional. With just three digits, help is always within reach—whether you call, text, or chat, the 988 Lifeline is a constant source of support, ready whenever you or someone you know needs it most.
Big Oil Collusion Allegations
Four months have passed, and Energy and Commerce Committee Republicans have yet to address the Federal Trade Commission (FTC)'s allegations that Big Oil colluded with OPEC to inflate gas prices, despite my calls for hearings. This week, I urged my Republican colleagues to schedule a bipartisan briefing with the FTC to discuss claims that Pioneer Natural Resources worked with OPEC to drive up prices. I’ve also requested a hearing with Pioneer’s former CEO to get answers. Republicans must prioritize this issue and stop Big Oil from taking advantage of the public for profit. For more details, read my full letter to the Committee Chair.
