Passed in 2021 after record turnout in 2020, SB 202 is still impacting how we vote in Georgia.

Let’s break it down:

SB 202 made a number of controversial changes to how elections are run in the state.
Since it became law, it has served as the blueprint for voter suppression bills nationwide.
SB 202 imposed burdensome voter ID requirements, criminalized handing out food and water to voters in line, and placed unnecessary limits on ballot drop boxes.
It also gave legislators the power to take over county Boards of Elections. Yes, you read that right, and kick the elected Georgia Secretary of State off of the State Election Board.
And to top it all off, it made filing mass voter challenges even easier.

Thanks to SB 202, any Georgian can challenge an unlimited number of registered voters in their county, a tactic we’ve seen used to intimidate eligible voters from heading to the polls.

SB 202 was designed to target and disenfranchise Black, brown, young, and unhoused voters. In just three years, SB 202 has changed how we vote in Georgia, and the impact is glaring: in 2023 there was a major uptick in vote-by-mail application rejection rates, which raises alarms for this election season.

Georgians lost 109 days of vote-by-mail, and lost five days on the tail end of the vote-by-mail schedule, against the recommendations of elections supervisors.

This year, the legislature passed SB 189, a new anti-voter law that builds on SB 202 and makes it easier for conspiracy supporting vigilantes to challenge Georgia voters’ freedom to cast a ballot and potentially purge them from the voter rolls. This is a blatant attempt to reshape Georgia by marginalizing the voices and rights of its people.

We must continue to fight back against anti-voter legislation in order to ensure our elections are fair and reflect the people — your donation today powers this work. [[link removed]]

Voter suppression has no place in our elections. Thank you for being part of this fight.
