Hospitals are open 24/7, 365 days a year to provide high-quality and life-saving care to all Americans. In an emergency, hospitals are Here for Everything. Whether it’s their own personal story or a loved one’s, most Americans have a story of a time when access to 24/7 care was critical.

In 2021, there were 136 million emergency department (ED) visits. Nearly half of ED visits occurred after business hours, when physician offices and urgent care centers are likely to be closed. Hospitals and EDs stay open around-the-clock because emergencies don’t stop after business hours.
