Cutting the winter fuel allowance for pensioners, keeping the Tories two child benefit cap and leaving hundreds of thousands of children in poverty, doing nothing about our overstretched, debt ridden local councils, telling us our collapsing NHS won't get any money until there's 'reform.' Will this reform involve more non-unionised, profiteering health care companies by any chance?
We're being told there's no money and a big economic black hole, so expect things to get worse before they get better. What is this, the Tory Party's austerity mark 2?
Yet, although we're being told there's no money, at the same time the Labour Party has pledged billions of pounds for foreign wars. In July, Keir Starmer promised to give Ukraine up to £3 billion a year 'for as long as it takes.'
The UK is a very rich country with huge income and wealth inequality. Throw in the current cost of living crisis and public service cuts and things are pretty grim for the majority of us.
The far right are already exploiting the situation and blaming immigrants, asylum seekers and refugees for the social problems ordinary people face.
Yet there is an alternative to these deeply unpopular political choices. The Labour Party could tax the rich and big corporations a lot more, they could impose wealth taxes on the huge profits oil and gas companies make.
So, its crucial we come together as an organised and united left to tell the Labour Party leadership that we do not accept their choices and demand the alternative.
