Should America Lead or Isolate?
|
Dear John xxxxxx,
As the liberal order crumbles, many are proposing alternatives that call for major
changes to the flawed, globalized structures that now shape the world.
Some voices say we must turn inward and care only about local problems.
However, is isolation a real solution? The need for international
relationships manifests itself in many ways. Trade, cultural exchange, natural disasters, and foreign aggression are all occasions where nations need
each other. And the
Catholic Church has long identified the need for solidarity with other nations. Not helping weaker nations resist aggression leads to
might-makes-right solutions that appeal to bully nations (like China and Russia).
For substantial answers about the dangers of isolationism, I invite you to read the American
TFP’s thought-provoking statement:
Why America Must Reject
Isolationism.
God bless you.
