I grew up in a politically active family. My father ran for city council in Tifton, Georgia; my uncle served in the Georgia House of Representatives; and my maternal grandfather was a proud Greek immigrant. They instilled in me a deep sense of civic duty which led me to become a professor of American and Nevada government. John, I enjoyed every pride-filled moment of teaching, but I knew there was more I could do to serve Nevada.

That is when I knew I could serve my community better by being able to work directly for the people in government. I ran for the Nevada State Senate in 1988 and served as the Minority Leader for 15 years. I knew there was more I could do to help Nevada, so I ran for Congress and am currently serving my seventh term in the U.S. House of Representatives.

I accomplished a lot in recent years, but I know that Southern Nevadans still need a helping hand. My campaign is committed to helping working families, assisting Las Vegas businesses, and helping the nation.

But there is something in my way of accomplishing more, John. I am in one of the most competitive elections in the country and in a dead heat with my opponent. I am running against a Republican opponent and far-right dark money groups that have spent millions in this state. That money is dedicated to knocking me out of this race and flipping this seat red. With a race this tight, that dark money can do a lot of damage to my campaign. I need your help right now.
