Extremists Involved in Nationwide Protests Against Coronavirus Restrictions

Americans’ response to the coronavirus pandemic now includes a spate of nationwide rallies decrying stay-at-home orders and calling for “reopening” the economy. While many of the protests calling for the reopening of the economy and lifting of state-issued quarantine mandates have been organized by more mainstream conservative organizations, a number have been sponsored in whole or part by identified extremists and a range of rally participants have carried signs or flags affiliated with various right-wing extremist ideologies.

ADL Survey Finds American Jews Feel More Threatened Than At Any Time in Past Decade

Nearly two-thirds of American Jews believe that they are less safe today than they were a decade ago, according to a new ADL survey on Jewish encounters with antisemitism in the United States.

The survey found that more than half of American Jews (54 percent) have either experienced or witnessed an incident they believe was motivated by antisemitism. And nearly two-thirds of Jews (63 percent) say their communities are “less safe” than they were a decade ago.

Fighting Hate From Home: Viruses and Violence - Dealing with Antisemitism in the Shadow of COVID-19

Yesterday, scholars Deborah Lipstadt, whose recent book “Antisemitism Here and Now” examines both historical and contemporary manifestations of antisemitism, and Jonathan Sarna, author of the seminal book “American Judaism,” joined ADL for an important webinar entitled “Viruses and Violence: Dealing with Antisemitism in the Shadow of COVID-19” on April 30.

During last week's webinar, ADL was joined by Jim Steyer, founder and CEO of Common Sense Media, to learn the best ways to provide students with a strong and inclusive education, and at the same time protect them from online harassment while they are plugged in for so many hours.

Asian Pacific American Heritage Month 

During the month of May, communities celebrate the achievements and contributions of people who are part of the Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) community with festivals, government-sponsored activities and educational activities for students. While these celebrations will take place virtually this year, ADL is proud to offer resources to help families, educators and communities explore the rich history and culture of AAPI people as well as the bias and discrimination they face.

Worldwide Celebration of Israel's Independence Day

On Wednesday, the community joined the Jewish Federations of North America for a virtual celebration of Israel's 72nd birthday. ADL was a proud co-sponsor of the one-hour event in honor of Yom Ha’atzmaut, which featured performances by Matisyahu and The Brothers Platt, and tributes from celebrities around the world.

Online Town Hall to Stop COVID-Related Hate - Watch Now

Last week, ADL Washington, D.C. Senior Associate Regional Director, Meredith R. Weisel, joined CUAH to discuss the rise of anti-Asian and anti-Jewish hate incidents due to the pandemic. Since March, Asian Americans have reported over 1,600 acts of physical or verbal abuse across the country.  

The panel included Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh, Maryland State Senator Susan Lee, Montgomery County Office of Human Rights Director Jim Stowe, Asian Pacific American Community Leader Judge Chung Pak and CUAH Senior Advisor Aryani Ong.

The Day of Unity (DOU) is an annual, coordinated day of interfaith local, grassroots action and community building around the DC metro area. On and around this day, more than a dozen local interfaith events will take place virtually. Hundreds of people of different faiths, or of no faith will come together for celebration, dialogue and community building.
