If you’ve been with us for a while, you know that every election year, we put together custom voter guides specifically designed for our clients and communities. And by “we”, I mean Emma, our incredible researcher and Daniel, our wonderful graphic designer.
We realized early on that voter education is a huge stumbling block on the path to voting for people of all stripes, but especially for our clients who are often first time voters or people who have not voted for a very long time. So we created guides that tell our voters everything from when to show up at the polls, what to bring, what their rights are, why voting matters, and, before we list the candidates and their positions, what the office they are running for even does. It’s hard to hire someone for a job when you don’t know what that job is.
Our guides are beautiful, easy to understand, and, I think, a big reason that we have such high voter turnout among our clients. We even make specific guides for our incarcerated voters, which is one of the reasons Vote by Mail in Jail has a 79.4% turnout rate.
This year, we are making guides for the over 60 jails participating in VBMIJ, for our clients and HUBs around the country, and for the Navajo Nation, where there is a real chance to turn out Navajo votes and significantly impact Arizona elections. We will also, as always, put our guides online for anyone to use free of charge.
All of this is vital, and expensive. Fewer than 1% of our clients even have regular access to a phone, much less the internet, so we have to print our guides, which, in a Presidential election year, can run over 50 pages. We want to be able to print a many guides as our communities need, but to do that, we need your help. With printing costs at all time highs, our guides are costing us more than ever this year.
This year, guides are $12 each, or $60 for 5, or $120 for 10. Can you donate to help us get a voter guide into the hands of every voter in our communities?
Thank you,
Kat
