Friend,
Today, I want to tell you a little bit about my friends, Congresswoman Haley Stevens and Congresswoman Hillary Scholten.
These two badass women both flipped Republican-held seats and have been not only partners in the U.S House, but also real friends.
Haley and I both first ran for Congress in 2018, and if you know Haley, you know she’s a singular personality. She’s the person I make eye contact with when something happens on the House floor and perhaps the most enthusiastic cheerleader for Team Slotkin. She’s also a relentless fighter for Oakland County and an expert in bringing good-paying manufacturing jobs back to Michigan.
Ever since Hillary flipped a seat in a Republican stronghold in 2022, it has been wonderful to see her fight on behalf of West Michiganders, and help pave the Democratic infrastructure in the fast-growing (and traditionally Republican) part of the state. To give you a sense of the scale of her accomplishment, West Michigan had not elected a Democrat for 50 years before Hillary, and it’s critical that she wins re-election in a toss-up district.
I have talked a lot in these emails about the importance of holding on to the U.S. Senate. But it is perhaps just as important that Democrats flip the U.S. House of Representatives, and that means keeping Haley and Hillary in office. Because not only is Michigan key to holding the White House and the Senate, but it’s critical to Democrats winning the House as well.
