Hi John,
It’s been a busy summer – the House is on recess right now but we wanted to make sure you heard about some of the great work Jahana was able to get done in Congress recently.
Jahana introduced two critical bills to support students and improve educational outcomes.
The Clean School Bus Act will help school districts replace old diesel buses with new electric ones. Too many kids are forced to miss class due to asthma-related hospital visits – and diesel school buses are a big contributor to respiratory health issues. Children should not have to trade their health for their education.
Jahana also introduced the Closing the College Hunger Gap Act after meeting with students, food pantry directors, and college officials this spring. 30% of University of Connecticut students report skipping meals and 30% of Eastern Connecticut State University undergrads report being food insecure. This isn’t just a hunger problem – it is a threat to college completion.
Jahana cosponsored the permanent authorization of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund – Connecticut is home to many 9/11 first responders and survivors, and we owe it to these heroes to stand by them.
She also voted with her colleagues to pass the Raise the Wage Act. This long-overdue bill would raise the minimum wage to $15 per hour by 2025, benefiting 90,800 people in our district.
This is just a sample of the work Jahana has been doing, and we will continue to update you with more. In the meantime, you can be certain that from standing with the working families in our community to supporting our students, Jahana and her colleagues are fighting for a better future for our community and our nation.
As we move forward into August, please consider helping us keep up the momentum heading into the rest of this summer. Will you chip in today to help us keep moving forward? [[link removed]]
