Friend, tomorrow marks 30 years since the federal assault weapons ban was signed into law. It also marks 20 years since the NRA made sure that this critical ban ended, putting all of our lives at risk. 

The original assault weapons ban was a truly transformative piece of legislation that Brady helped make a reality. Countless lives were saved while the ban was in effect, and its end had deadly consequences:

A staggering 183% increase in gun massacres in the decade after.

Assault weapons have been used in some of the most heinous and deadly mass shootings committed in our country because they are designed for destruction. 

Uvalde, Parkland, Buffalo, Las Vegas, Lewiston — and just last week, Winder, GA — are just some of the communities who have faced unimaginable tragedy. Assault weapons do not belong in schools, grocery stores, or concerts, but these places that should be safe are made deadly by easy access to weapons of war. 

The NRA and the gun lobby would rather make a profit off of marketing these deadly weapons to dangerous users than support any measure that would keep our children and families safe. It’s time for our lawmakers to choose American lives over gun lobby blood money, friend.
