While far-right extremists across the country continue to introduce bills
that would discriminate against and actively harm vulnerable LGBTQ+ youth,
Rob is keeping up the fight to protect young people from these dangerous
laws.
At the end of August, Rob joined a multistate coalition of attorneys
general in filing an amicus brief to support Michigan’s ban on conversion
therapy for minors. A conservative group is suing the state for its new
law that prevents this cruel, harmful, and ineffective practice that aims
to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity from being used
on young people.
Conversion therapy is a discredited and harmful practice that is not only
ineffective, but increases the risk of suicide and chronic mental illness.
That’s why Rob firmly believes it has no place in our healthcare
institutions, and that no child should be subjected to it simply for being
who they are.
Last week, Rob also led 20 attorneys general in an amicus brief opposing
Tennesee’s law that bans gender-affirming care for transgender adolescents
suffering from gender dysphoria.
Medical and scientific evidence show that the benefits of gender-affirming
care like gender-affirming puberty blockers and hormone therapy far
outweigh the risks, yet Tennessee is preventing young people from
accessing this critical, life-saving care, even if they, their parents,
and their doctor deem it medically necessary.
While Republicans in state legislatures and Congress continue to attack
the rights, health, and safety of the LGBTQ+ community — especially
vulnerable young people — Rob is doing everything in his power to fight
back and ensure every person can live as their authentic selves.
