This is a May Day like no other. COVID-19 has had a profound impact on our workers, who day after day continue to risk their lives to provide us with daily necessities, despite the failures of our government to ensure them with personal protective equipment and fair, livable wages.
Millions of workers have lost their jobs. Those still on the job are often left with unsafe conditions, often without PPE and proper social distancing, that is exposing them to this dangerous virus.
Today workers at major companies, including Amazon, Target, Instacart, and Walmart, are striking for better conditions, and, tenants are organizing rent strikes on a large scale.
I’m proud to support these May Day movements, and I am further committed to fighting for durable change in our society to support workers not just today but every day of the year. To make sure our workers are valued and protected, I support:
- A federal jobs guarantee program;
- Requiring a $15 dollar minimum wage; and
- Making sure that the Green New Deal and the transition to Medicare for All create lasting, high quality jobs supporting a better future for all.
I invite you to read more about my plan to support workers.
