Fight for $15

It shouldn't be this hard to get a facemask. But that's my fight right now.

I've been terrified every minute of these past six weeks. Will I catch it from a customer? Will I bring it home to my kids? How will I pay rent if I'm too sick to work?

I'm exposed to this pandemic, and it feels like McDonald's would rather treat me as disposable than make sure all of us have masks and gloves.

I'm one of millions of hard-working people around the world that knows they're not safe on the job. And we won't stop until we get PPE, sick leave, and hazard pay.

Today is May Day, which commemorates the 1886 massacre of striking workers. The threat may have changed since that day but right now: my life is in danger, and I'm fed up.

We need protective equipment -- I can't believe some of us still don't have it -- but that's far from enough.

Every table I wipe down, tray I return, or dollar bill I handle is a gamble. McDonald's must enforce social distancing by ending lobby service in its restaurants.

Every time I look at my pay stub, I know I'm not being paid what I deserve while McDonald's keeps making profits in a pandemic. McDonald's must IMMEDIATELY institute Covid-19 Essential Worker Pay so we're paid what we deserve.

And if I start to feel sick after a long shift close to coworkers and customers, McDonald's must cover the cost of Covid-19 testing and treatment for myself and all affected crew members.

Around the world, my fellow workers are demanding better. I stand with workers striking and protesting today, and with workers around the world demanding the respect we all deserve. Do you? >>

This pandemic will end. It's up to all of us to demand what we need to get through it.
