Our campaign just released a new TV ad about what’s at stake in this election and women's freedom to make decisions about their own bodies.

The ad is about Sarah, from West Michigan, the baby that she and her husband desperately wanted, and the life-saving care that Sarah received when she lost the pregnancy. I’m grateful to Sarah and her family for sharing their heart-wrenching story with me, and with all of you. It’s incredibly brave. You can watch the ad here:

Sarah’s story is one that many Michiganders know all too well.

The last thing that families faced with the heartbreak of losing a pregnancy need is politicians getting involved with their healthcare.

And my opponent has a 20-year voting record on this topic that shows he will not stand with women like Sarah. All you need to do is stick to the cold hard facts: starting in 1994, he told the Lansing State Journal that he supports “all restrictions on abortion.” In 2000, he supported a nationwide abortion ban. Between 2005 and 2013, he co-sponsored bills that would have restricted IVF and some forms of birth control. In 2023, he made clear that he would have voted against a woman’s right to choose in Michigan if he had not been voting in Florida at the time. All told, he voted for 8 abortion bans and 48 additional measures that would limit reproductive freedom in his 20 years in office.

At the end of the day, this election is about who you trust to protect your rights, and the rights of your children. It’s about the deeply personal decisions that Michigan families make every day about when and how to start a family and the pain of pregnancy loss. It’s about healthcare decisions made in consultation with a doctor, and whether politicians should be able to intervene in those private — and often tragic — moments.

I will fight for Michigan women to make those decisions in consultation with their loved ones and their healthcare providers, not politicians. And my record is crystal clear on this topic. No need to hide. No need to dodge.
