In a new podcast, the Young Center's Technical Assistance Program Co-Director Kelly Albinak Kribs discusses the story of a U.S. Marine who used the 2021 fall of Afghanistan and its ensuing chaos as a way to adopt an Afghan baby girl, known as Baby Doe, under questionable circumstances.

The case sparked intense ethical debates and legal battles, prompting the Young Center to submit an amicus brief to the Virginia Court of Appeals in favor of the reunification of the baby with her biological family. While the court voided the adoption in July, Baby Doe has yet to be reunified with her family.

Waymakers: We did it! With your support as a Waymaker, we’ve helped Joaquin complete the final stretch of his journey and reunify with his mother and two young siblings in New York City. Joaquin is now safe, happy, and free and we've raised close to $20,000 of our $35,000 goal

We now take you on a journey with another young boy, Kolya. Kolya is fleeing war in Kyiv, Ukraine. To reach Chicago, Illinois he must travel a total of 5,052 miles. Throughout, he will deal with the uncertainty of landing in a country where he doesn’t know the language, or if he will ever see his loved ones again.

Be a Waymaker for Kolya as a team or individual and contribute to the total number of miles he’s traveled and support his resettlement in this country and help us reach our goal of raising $35,000.00!
