My name is Sahana and I am the High Net Wealth (HNW) Program Manager at RG.
This year, we will offer a Transforming Philanthropy Track at our annual Making Money Make Change Conference in Nashville, TN from November 21-24 .
In 2022, just 0.7% of charitable dollars [[link removed]] from wealthy people were reported to go towards social or racial justice causes. And, in 2022, Donor Advised Funds held $229 billion in charitable assets, but only $52 billion moved out of those funds [[link removed]] . In other words, $177 billion were left sitting in philanthropic coffers rather than addressing the pressing needs presented by intersecting crises. As young people with wealth and class privilege, we have a unique role to play in shifting philanthropy towards greater alignment with social movements. We can begin this work by coming together at MMMC 2024 to reflect, learn, and take action.
In the Transforming Philanthropy track, we will be joined by visionary leaders and organizations like Chuck Collins [[link removed]] , the Donor Revolt for Charity Reform [[link removed]] , and Thousand Currents [[link removed]] for workshops exploring the history of philanthropy, current calls to action for donors and funders, and strategies for organizing our families. Between workshops, participants will debrief and build deeper relationships with one another in specialized pods (small debrief groups). Participants will emerge from the conference with personalized action steps in service of the redistribution of wealth, land, and power, and with the support and community they need to meet those goals.
