Hey Compadre,

Self-isolation is great for thinking deeply about things, isn’t it?

Today is May Day. A day to think about workers.

After Covid hit us two months ago, millions of workers have been laid off around the world.

Most large corporations have no loyalty, never have. They take what they can when the going is good, then abandon their workers without a second thought when things get rough.

It’s not just the CEOs and boards of directors who run these huge companies that are to blame, it’s also the legal and ideological structures of our global system that allow them to get away with it.

In the US alone, 30 million laid-off workers are now wondering how to pay the rent and buy groceries. Last week thousands of cars lined up outside the San Antonio Food Bank.

The worst of this global economic depression is yet to come.

It could be 1929 all over again.

COVID-19 is the great revealer. It has exposed the full truth of the global class divide. Why are hundreds of millions now facing starvation while big companies are being bailed out to the tune of trillions of dollars — and the tax havens of the rich remain wholly intact?

When the pandemic subsides, will we go back to the old system that treats 99% of humanity like shit? Or will we launch OCCUPY 2.0 and fight for a new New Deal?

This Mayday make a vow to yourself that from now on you’ll fight for workers rights — for human rights.

You’ll take the great tradition of this day to heart.
