Hi,
I remember the smell of ammonia, blood, and fear. I remember the panic rising up in my chest—my desperate urge to stop the conveyor belts and rescue every single chicken. I remember feeling heartbroken, knowing that the only time these poor animals had felt the sunlight was on the way to their slaughter.
And the thing I remember most about the slaughterhouse was the cold, cruel efficiency.
When I visited the slaughterhouse that day as part of my veterinary training, I understood that ending factory farming will be an uphill battle. We’re going up against some of the most powerful companies in the world. They have billions of dollars, powerful lawyers, and the status quo on their side.
And that’s why my heart swells with pride when I think about everything our community has accomplished. Together, we have made inroads against one of the world’s most powerful industries. We have built a global network that is tearing down this system of cruelty, one cage at a time. Because we owe it to the animals.
