We are off to the races! We're knocking doors, making calls, and there’s plenty more to come between now and November!

But to turn things inward for a second, do you ever wonder what goes on behind the scenes at AYD? Do you want to know what it takes to make organizing and community happen? Do you want to hear me talk about how much fun I have writing you guys every week (....ish?) Well then come to the Shirlington Library on Tuesday, September 17th for our Meet the Eboard GenBod session to learn what we all do here and hopefully decide you may want to be part of the team next year!

And while there’s a cool happy hour plan for the end of the month (that’s all I can say until we lock in a couple details 🤫), the rest of my mind is on CANVASSING! It’s going to take all of us to turn out the vote here in Arlington and beyond our state borders to bring home the victory for Harris and Walz, so please check the info below and at our Facebook Event Page  and try to find some time to come help bring us across the finish line!

Starting next week (not tomorrow!), AYD will be hosting a weekly phone bank that calls voters both in Virginia and Key battleground states every Thursday. Food and drinks will be provided. Those who wish to participate need to bring a phone. A laptop and earbuds, are strongly recommended

🚪 Every Weekend: Canvassing!  🏠

Every weekend we will be getting our outdoor clothes on and knocking doors for different races across the Commonwealth and beyond!

Please be prepared to walk around for a while (think: athletic clothing, tennis shoes, sunglasses, baseball cap/visor), and keep an eye on the forecast. We recommend while canvassing that you wear sunscreen, bring water and snacks, and come with a fully charged phone as we will be using a mobile app to assist our canvassing.

📄 Arlington Democrats Messenger 📄

Below is a special request from the Arlington Democrats

Beginning Friday, September 14th, we need volunteers to help us distribute the Democratic Messenger to over 52,000 doors across the county. The Messenger contains information about each of our candidates as well as information about where, when, and how to vote—it's our way of making sure voting information is accessible in every neighborhood.

Each route takes 1.5–2 hours and can be done on your own time. Put on your favorite playlist or podcast and get your steps in while keeping Arlington blue! This is a perfect for first-time volunteers or for someone who wants a flexible opportunity. Sign up for a route.

Every year, the Virginia Young Democrats host a campaign competition to encourage YD’s to get involved in turning out voters. AYD was in the top three last year and we hope to maintain our standing while also getting our amazing slate into their respective offices!
