We’re writing today with some important news – thanks to Full Fact, the Daily Express has corrected a claim in a Boxing Day 2023 comment piece, after a long fight for the truth. This victory wouldn’t have been possible without supporters like you.
You might remember that several Conservative politicians, including Richard Holden MP, claimed Labour’s policies would lead to the UK taking in an additional 100,000 migrants every year.
Full Fact has flagged this claim, written to politicians asking them to correct it and encouraged supporters to write to politicians who have shared it.
After months of back-and-forth and taking the case to IPSO which describes itself as ‘a self-regulator paid for by publishers which are members but (it) carries out its work independently from them’, the Daily Express has now officially corrected the article.

** Scientists have not discovered that ‘autism can be reversed’ ([link removed])

A study published in June has made claims about “reversing” autism diagnoses using a combination of different methods.
This is not correct, according to experts. The study in question was very limited in scope, involving two girls, and acknowledged this. Autism may present differently over time, but experts say autism is not a disorder or illness and it cannot be reversed or cured.

A social media post released by Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero Ed Miliband on 3 September hailed the “record-breaking results of our renewables auction”.
This claim is missing important context. The process began under the Conservatives, and the previous government had already increased the maximum ‘strike price’ companies are allowed to charge prior to the general election. Labour did increase the auction’s overall budget, however.

During Prime Minister’s Questions last week Leader of the Opposition Rishi Sunak MP claimed that the Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, had “scrapped” both the Winter Fuel Payment and “hundreds of pounds of additional cost of living support” received by pensioners under the previous government last year.
This isn’t quite right. While most pensioners will no longer receive the Winter Fuel Payment, some are still eligible for it.
It’s also not clear that there were plans for additional Pensioner Cost of Living Payments that Labour has chosen not to proceed with, while the Household Support Fund has been extended by the government until next year.
