Friend --
Earlier this week, the D.C. Court of Appeals heard arguments in the House's lawsuit against the Trump administration.
President Trump and his enablers are being accused of misappropriating billions of dollars intended for military families to fund Trump's pointless and xenophobic border wall.
It's a clear-cut ethical issue, but the central argument here is constitutional.
No esoteric reading required: Congress, and Congress alone, possesses the power of the purse. Put bluntly, those elected to represent the American people in Congress -- not the president -- have the constitutional power to decide how Americans' hard-earned tax dollars are spent.
And while our president has demonstrated repeated disrespect and disregard for the Constitution, our federal courts, thankfully, are still bound to its laws.
If you -- like me -- believe in the U.S. Constitution and its centrality to the fabric of our democracy, add your name here to support the congressional lawsuit against the Trump administration.
Thank you for voicing your support.
Sincerely,
Patrick Leahy
U.S. Senator
