Today, on September 11, we remember the nearly 3,000 people who were killed 23 years ago, including more than 600 union members. The loved ones lost that day included firefighters and first responders, janitorial workers, electrical workers, flight attendants and pilots, federal government staff, and many more.
"The courage and selflessness of the first responders, including the 343 firefighters who gave their lives, stand as a lasting testament to the spirit of brotherhood and sacrifice," IAFF Local 36 shared earlier. "Today, and every day, we stand united in remembrance of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Their bravery will never be forgotten, and their legacy lives on through the dedication of first responders everywhere."

Correction: Unity Health Care workers
|
In Monday's edition of this newsletter we shared that unionized providers at Unity Health Care have authorized a strike. These staff are members of the Union of American Physicians and Dentists (UAPD), which represents doctors, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants at Unity.
Support staff at Unity — including custodial staff, front desk staff, and medical assistants — are currently in the process of unionizing with Metropolitan District 1199 DC of the National Union of Hospital and Health Care Employees (NUHHCE). Their effort to unionize is ongoing and it was UAPD workers who voted to authorize a strike, not NUHHCE. We apologize for the error.
