Dear Neighbor, I hope you are well. Today is September 11th, a day where we remember the 2,977 people killed in terror attacks in New York City, Washington D.C., and Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Our first responders played an integral part that day, helping guide injured and distressed citizens to safety. It’s important to never forget what happened on our soil and how our country came together in the wake of such tragedy.

Veterans Suicide Prevention Week 

Next week, in conjunction with Montgomery County, we will recognize Veterans Suicide Prevention Week from September 19th through September 26th. As of 2021, suicide was the 13th highest cause of death for Veterans overall, and the second-leading cause for Veterans under 45 years old. Throughout the week, we will hold events that recognize and spread awareness around Veteran suicide. The events include a proclamation, flag raising, documentary screening, and witting tree dedication. 

On Monday, September 23rd at 10 am, leaders of Montgomery County and I will conduct a public flag raising at 10 a.m. at the Montgomery County Courthouse, 2 E. Airy Street, Norristown, PA 19401, at the intersection of Swede and Airy Streets. Elected officials and guests will be on hand, as well as a lineup of speakers. Please join us! 

One of the events we are holding during Veterans’ Suicide Prevention Week is a documentary screening at Ursinus College on Tuesday, September 24th at 6:30 PM. The Journey Home is a documentary that tells the story of a group of Veterans, their community, and PTSD. There will be an opportunity to engage with the participating hosts through a Q&A session. Norristown Area School District Funding 

I’m proud to announce that Norristown Area School District was awarded $84,067 in state grant funding through the Public School Environmental Repairs Program. Every student deserves to learn in an environment that is safe, healthy and free from dangers such as asbestos and lead. With our leadership in the House, we've prioritized addressing these long-neglected issues. With help from Rep. Matt Bradford and Rep. Greg Scott, this funding is a significant step toward ensuring that our schools are places where children can thrive. 

Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War 

Last Wednesday I met with the Baker-Fisher Camp No. 101 of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War in Hatboro. Along with Mike Peter, pictured here, I visited the grave of Pvt. Moore Krier, the last known Civil War veteran of Montgomery County. While paying respects, I learned more about Pvt. Krier, who was born in 1848 and enlisted in the 192nd Pennsylvania Infantry at the age of 17. Above is a newsclip of Pvt. Krier and his great-grandson. The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War are officially recognized as the legal successors to the Grand Army of the Republic, which operated as the Civil War Veterans organization. Pvt. Krier is a part of the Last Union Veteran project, which locates the final resting place for the last Civil War soldiers in each county in the United States. Pfizer Visit 

On Monday I was grateful to spend some time with leadership at Pfizer, located in the heart of the 150th legislative district. We discussed the cyber security needs of the industry, as I spent time in the field during my military and private sector careers. They also presented some components of their staff wellness policies and procedures, which are important to me due to the large number of my district residents who are employed at Pfizer. An introductory presentation on their work to manage the symptoms of rare diseases was also provided, as well as a brief tour of the facilities. 

Mitzvah Circle Diaper Giveaway 

It’s always a pleasure getting over to Mitzvah Circle Foundation in West Norriton. Yesterday we volunteered with Rep. Hanbidge and Rep. Bradford’s staff during their diaper giveaway, which provides families in need with diapers. My staff and I helped pack up trucks and cars, and unload donations that were dropped off. 1 in 3 families can’t afford diapers, and Mitzvah Circle’s giveaway totals nearly 3 million donations to assist with this.  

License Plate Restoration Recap 

It was a beautiful day for our license plate restoration event last Thursday! Thank you so much to each neighbor who stopped by to start the process of replacing their old plate with a brand new one, and to Rep. Ciresi’s office and the Upper Providence Police Department for their vital assistance from start to finish.
