I am really proud of Oregonians! We have taken our Governor's orders to heart and have put into practice physical (social) distancing. Recent evidence suggests our efforts may have helped avoid tens of thousands of infections, so far. The sacrifices you, your family, and our community make every day are helping save lives. Thank you!

While everyone plays a part in curbing the infection rate, there would be no progress to speak of without the amazing people on the frontlines of the pandemic, working around the clock to keep us safe and healthy. Now, we need to share our strength with our health care workers, who urgently need:

• Personal protective equipment (PPE): This refers to items like N95 respirator masks, face shields, and basic masks. Nationwide, PPE is running low, putting health care workers in danger.
• Emergency child care: As schools and child care centers close and extended families are told to physically distance, health care workers are left without reliable child care during one of the most demanding and stressful times in their careers.
• Paid sick leave: The significant public health risks caused by inadequate paid sick leave are multiplied during a pandemic – and like so many other fields, the medical community still lacks guaranteed paid sick leave for all employees.
