We see VP Kamala Harris as the best opponent we can push to meet young people’s progressive demands. The voices of young people in this country are loud and clear, many young activists and their allies who sit within the democratic base are calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza and an arms embargo on Israel: If Democrats want to defeat Donald Trump and prevent his catastrophic Project 2025 ideology from being implemented, our demands must be listened to and taken seriously.
VP Kamala Harris is a candidate who young people can communicate, strategize and engage in principled struggle with — and make no mistake: we will. In order to turn out young voters and engage with them in her presidency, the voices of young people cannot be ignored.
Here at Future Coalition, we acknowledge that her nomination for the presidency is a historic feat, as the first Black American and first South Asian American woman to be a major party nominee, while simultaneously understanding that identity politics and representation mean nothing if the agenda of young people and the voices of those most marginalized are not centered and considered in a governance agenda. Vice President Harris has shown intentional policy positions on the climate crisis, taxing the wealthy, and making housing equal and accessible. But, VP Kamala Harris also MUST support an immediate and permanent ceasefire to end the genocide in Gaza.
We consider more than one issue when endorsing candidates — and our hope is that our commitment to the accountability of the Harris-Walz ticket with the help of youth activists will drive progress forward.
