John, as we mark the solemn anniversary of September 11, 2001, I want to take a moment to reflect on the profound loss we suffered that day—and the incredible acts of courage and unity that arose in its aftermath.
On that fateful morning, we lost nearly 3,000 individuals, and in the days and weeks that followed, we witnessed the bravery of first responders, the compassion of neighbors, and the resilience of a nation that refused to be torn apart.
I also want to take a moment to reflect on the extraordinary courage and heroism displayed by the passengers and crew of United Airlines Flight 93. This plane, which crashed into a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, became a symbol of resilience, bravery, and self-sacrifice in the face of unspeakable terror.
Look, our country has come a long way since that dark day, but the lessons we learned remain as vital as ever. As we honor those who perished, let us also remember the brave first responders who ran toward danger, the citizens who united to help one another, and the families who have carried the heavy burden of loss for more than two decades.
We must continue to support and uplift the men and women who keep us safe every day—our firefighters, police officers, medical personnel, and military service members. I am proud to stand alongside my colleagues in government to advocate for the resources they need, from enhanced benefits for families of fallen first responders to expanded mental health services for those still suffering the invisible scars of that day.
But beyond policy, 9/11 reminds us that we are stronger together than we are divided. It calls us to reject the forces of hatred and division that seek to pull us apart. Today, I call on all of us to recommit to the ideals of unity, service, and compassion. Our greatest tribute to the heroes of 9/11 is to build a nation that honors their legacy by lifting up every American, no matter who they are or where they come from.
On this day of remembrance, let us renew our dedication to working for a brighter, more united future.
Together,
Austin Davis
