John,

On this day 23 years ago, our nation faced unimaginable loss and tragedy. Like many Americans, I remember where I was when I first heard the news of the attacks on September 11, 2001. That day, we witnessed immense courage, sacrifice, and the undeniable strength of our country coming together. First responders, service members, and ordinary citizens put everything on the line to protect their fellow Americans.

For me, 9/11 became a pivotal moment in my life. Matt’s first call was to a military recruiter’s office to enlist. Just two days after his high school graduation, he left for Marine Corps boot camp and soon deployed to Iraq. That marked the start of my long journey as a veterans’ advocate.

After my husband Matt’s service left him with an undiagnosed brain injury and post-traumatic stress, I saw firsthand how our system sometimes falls short in supporting those who give so much for us.

We honor our country and those sacrifices by moving forward together. And we make sure our veterans, military families, and communities get the care and support they deserve.

Today, as we remember the lives lost and honor that day’s heroes, I ask that we renew our commitment to building a better future–a future where our nation’s leaders prioritize the well-being of people, not partisan politics.

With gratitude,

Callie
