Rabies is a deadly disease with a long incubation period. Post-exposure prophylaxis requires both rabies immune globulin and a series of rabies vaccines to ensure protection. Deviating from expert recommendations can result in failure. In cases of animal exposure, seek advice from the health department. Tetanus risk from animal bites should also be considered.
