John,
Twenty-three years ago, our country watched in horror as multiple acts of terrorism took the lives of nearly three thousand Americans. Today, we remember the victims and the brave first responders and volunteers who rushed to save the lives of complete strangers.
What happened in the aftermath of the attack proved that the fabric of America cannot be easily torn.
Americans came together to take care of each other, to provide for and protect each other. We saw the strength and resilience of our nation. We saw innumerable acts of heroism, compassion, and sacrifice on that day and every day in the twenty-three years since. We saw the best of our nation in the darkest of times.
That is the America I am proud to live in, and that is the America I work for every day in Congress.
Today, I hope you will take a moment to remember those we lost and the families who mourn them, and uplift and honor the survivors.
I know I will.
