Press release: “Women and girls are left behind in COVID-19 response” – warn women’s organizations


UN Women initiated consultations with women’s organizations and activists across the Europe and Central Asia region in April to bring their solutions to the forefront of the COVID-19 response. Together, they called upon governments and development partners to ensure effective dialogue with civil society to put women’s needs at the centre of response and recovery efforts, warning of a roll back in women’s rights if actions are not urgently taken. Read more »

Data dive: Surveys show that COVID-19 has gendered effects in Asia and the Pacific


In April, UN Women’s Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific started rolling out rapid assessment surveys to capture the pandemic's gendered consequences across the region. The surveys are revealing that women and men are experiencing the effects of the pandemic differently. Read more »

Women Rise for All 

A new global advocacy initiative, “Rise for All” brings together women leaders to mobilize support for the UN roadmap for social and economic recovery from COVID-19, and to fully fund the UN Response and Recovery Trust Fund. Convened by the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Amina Mohammed, the initiative features influential leaders and activists from all walks of life, including UN Women Executive Director UN Women Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka and National UN Women Ambassador of Pakistan Muniba Mazari.

Under a UN-led partnership #HelloGlobalGoals, UN Women teamed up with fan favourite Hello Kitty to promote SDG 5.
