The joy that Vice President Harris and Governor Walz — and their supporters, volunteers, and teams — are bringing to our lives is energizing. They’re making so many people want to participate again. It feels good! On the other side: The chaos and fear that Donald Trump and his MAGA allies are bringing to this election season is terrifying and rage-inducing. For both good and bad reasons, it’s hard to look away from what’s happening in the presidential race. Especially on nights like tonight — debate night in America! — it can be harder for down-ballot candidates to receive the attention and support they need at the local level. But luckily, they have people like you who understand what’s at stake up and down the ballot: This November, voters will elect 82 state Supreme Court justices and 5,793 state legislators! With our Democracy Defenders work, we’ve endorsed leaders who will be critical to safeguarding our fundamental rights and ensuring the survival of our democracy. But first they need to get elected — and they need our help.
As a result of the work we’ve done together, Americans across the country will again vote in much fairer congressional and state legislative districts this fall than they have had in a generation. On a more level playing field, we have a real chance to secure big wins for our movement. But Republicans are still doing everything they can to manipulate maps, silence voters, and skew the results in their favor. They’ll do everything in their power to cling onto unearned power. With your help, I know we can help elect leaders who will protect fair maps and combat ongoing gerrymandering. Will you chip in to power this movement and help save our democracy?
