The joy that Vice President Harris and Governor Walz — and their supporters, volunteers, and teams — are bringing to our lives is energizing. They’re making so many people want to participate again. It feels good! 

On the other side: The chaos and fear that Donald Trump and his MAGA allies are bringing to this election season is terrifying and rage-inducing. 

For both good and bad reasons, it’s hard to look away from what’s happening in the presidential race. Especially on nights like tonight — debate night in America! — it can be harder for down-ballot candidates to receive the attention and support they need at the local level. 

But luckily, they have people like you who understand what’s at stake up and down the ballot: This November, voters will elect 82 state Supreme Court justices and 5,793 state legislators!

With our Democracy Defenders work, we’ve endorsed leaders who will be critical to safeguarding our fundamental rights and ensuring the survival of our democracy. But first they need to get elected — and they need our help.
