Dear John,
If the destruction of human life is called reproductive freedom, then it can mean almost anything.
As the radical abortion agenda continues to force itself upon our nation, it is time for the body of Christ to once again stand firmly on the Word of God and say "no."
This November, Missouri, along with nine other states including Florida, South Dakota, Montana, and others, will include an abortion ballot initiative that would drastically alter the current, pro-life protections in their respective state constitutions.
By masquerading under the guise of "reproductive freedom," the Missouri abortion ballot initiative uses purposefully vague language to achieve its ends.
The proposed amendment creates a right to "reproductive freedom" but does not delineate any limits, and while a Cole County circuit judge recently ruled that the proposed amendment violated state law, his decision was swiftly appealed.
The Missouri Supreme Court is hearing oral arguments today -- the same deadline for an initiative to appear on the ballot.
If the Court allows this unthinkable measure to appear, and it is passed, it could allow pornographic sex education curricula and transgender ideology to follow unimpeded, not to mention how it will undermine decades of hard fought protections for the unborn.
So what can Christians do about it? Proverbs 24:11 reminds us, "Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter."
Together we must plant our feet on the Word of God and defend what is good, true, and right.
Family Research Council will never stop standing on the truth of the Bible and defending the unborn from the radical abortion agenda -- even if we have to stand alone.
Thankfully, there is a good reason to persevere, not only because compromising on the truth of God's Word is never an option -- but because, as a nation, we are beginning to realize the consequences of rejecting our biblical foundations.
Through their insatiably woke policies, the radical Left has succeeded in alienating more and more Americans:
- Only 10% of Americans support no restrictions on abortion according to one public opinion poll from Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America.
- For the first time in almost a decade, American support for same-sex marriage has fallen from 69% to 67% according to a 2023 Public Religion Research Institute survey.
- A Gallup survey found that American opposition to biological men competing in women's sports rose from 62% to 69% from 2021 to 2023.
Unsurprisingly, most people do not support abortion until the moment of birth, or in some horrifying cases, killing a baby after it has already been born. Similarly, people are beginning to say "enough" to the endless sexual depravity that has been on display in our streets, schools, libraries, and politics.
Clearly, the defense of the unborn and God's design for marriage and sexuality are not losing issues.
But it is not enough to put an end to the woke madness that has been ignited. Bible-believing Christians must be ready to fill the void these doomed ideas create with the truth of the gospel.
We know that the Bible offers a better vision for the world than any political party ever could. Together we can remind our friends, family, neighbors, and leaders that the Word of God is always relevant to our cultural and political struggles.
