HHS Secretary Alex Azar Joins Focus Radio to Discuss Government’s Coronavirus Response

HHS Secretary Alex Azar Joins Focus Radio to Discuss Government’s Coronavirus Response

By: Jim Daly

It might surprise you that with a budget of $1.4 trillion dollars, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is the largest cabinet department on earth. If it were a country, it would be only behind the United States, China, Japan, Germany and France.

Given the programs and responsibilities entrusted to Secretary Azar, including Medicare, Medicaid and the Food and Drug Administration, the department’s work is vital – and especially in the age of the coronavirus global pandemic.

Secretary Azar, who also serves on the COVID-19 Taskforce, shared with me that the group is very collegial and laser-focused on fighting the virus. It won’t surprise you that he said to be skeptical of what you read in the mainstream media about supposed dysfunction and infighting.

Mark Levin Exposes States’ Dangerous Practice of Sending Coronavirus Patients to Nursing Homes
Mark Levin Exposes States’ Dangerous Practice of Sending Coronavirus Patients to Nursing Homes
By: Jeff Johnston

On March 26, talk show host Mark Levin was called by a woman who told him about a New York State health order that required nursing homes to accept recovering coronavirus patients discharged from hospitals. Levin’s show is one of the most listened to radio programs and podcastsin the U.S.

The caller identified herself as Elaine and described herself as a physician and medical director in a long-term care facility in New Rochelle, a coronavirus hotspot at that time. Elaine said:

I wanted to bring your attention and to the listeners’ attention what is about to happen in New York with respect to nursing homes. The governor has ordered that all nursing homes mut accept COVID positive patients who are actually and potentially still infectious into their facilities. And this will put our residents – our long-term population at risk.
YouTube Removes Viral Video of Doctors Disagreeing with Coronavirus Health Directives

Citing its “Community Guidelines,” YouTube took down a viral video of two California doctors holding a press conference in which they disputed the need for quarantines, the closures of businesses and even the need for masks.

The doctors, Dan Erickson and Artin Massihi of Bakersfield, California, discussed their findings based on their clinical experience and treatment of over 5,000 COVID-19 patients. Claiming that government and medical authorities had ramped up fear with dire predictions of over two million deaths in the U.S. alone, the doctors observed that people were not going to the hospital for other necessary treatments and operations not related to COVID-19. People suffering heart attacks and strokes were not calling for ambulances, for example, putting their lives in further jeopardy. Emergency rooms are nearly empty around the country, the doctors pointed out, as people needing emergency treatment feared exposure to COVID-19. That’s not a good thing. The doctors asked whether anyone is tracking deaths related to these unintended consequences of the coronavirus hype.

States Around the Country Begin Reopening Their Economies
States Around the Country Begin Reopening Their Economies
By: Zachary Mettler

After President Trump issued the “Guidelines for Opening Up America Again” on April 16, many state governors around the country have begun reopening their states’ economies and rescinding stay-at-home orders. Other governors, however, have chosen to keep their states closed for business until at least May 15.

According to CNN, 18 states have decided to begin reopening their economies, or never shut them down in the first place. These states include Alaska, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, West Virginia and Wyoming.

Additionally, Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., has announced that his state will begin reopening on Wednesday, April 29. And Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine recently declared that his state will begin reopening next week.

Abortion Activists Using Coronavirus Pandemic to Increase Telemedicine Abortion
Abortion Activists Using Coronavirus Pandemic to Increase Telemedicine Abortion

By: Brittany Raymer

There are growing calls to make the abortion pill more readily available to women across the country during the COVID-19 crisis. This is a profound mistake, and one that may potentially result in more women seeking emergency medical attention for abortion pill-related complications.

As reported by The New York Times, “abortion through telemedicine is a quietly growing phenomenon, driven in part by restrictions from conservative states and the Trump administration that have limited access and increased the distance many women must travel to abortion clinics.”

This is both true, but also a bit misleading. ThoughTexas did successfully ban abortions for a small period of time, the state has now rescinded this order. Other states have attempted to institute bans on surgical abortions, but not all have been successful and the abortion pill is still readily available. In fact, some Planned Parenthood locations have closed due to the pandemic, not because of “restrictions from conservative states.”
