After Jan. 6, more than 1,200 people faced charges for their actions. Over 80 of them were either members of identified antigovernment militias — like the Oath Keepers and the Three Percenters — or were said to be motivated by the movement’s false conspiracy theories. Despite the decrease in active militias, their rhetoric, fueled by disinformation, has gone mainstream and is still creating a strong base of people that aren’t necessarily members of any particular organization. Bred out of fear and hate, the disinformation spread throughout our country is radicalizing people to act violently against people of color, Jewish Americans, immigrants, LGBTQ+ communities and women. As highlighted in our latest Year in Hate and Extremism report, the violence these groups face is stark but our commitment to counter extremist threats, end political violence and dismantle far-right movements stands stronger than ever. The SPLC upholds its values every day through our initiatives: Intelligence Project: Our experts publish comprehensive analyses that expose far-right, violent groups and their targets. In addition to our Year in Hate and Extremism report, we also publish our Preventing Youth Radicalization: Building Resilient, Inclusive Communities report with the Polarization & Extremism Research & Innovation Lab (PERIL). Vote Your Voice: In partnership with the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, we are financially supporting 68 grassroots organizations that are registering, educating and organizing voters in creative ways. The South's Got Now: This campaign empowers a new generation of Southerners, led by young people of color, who have something to say and will make their voices heard at the ballot box. United together, they defy the people who tell them that their votes and opinions don’t matter and prove they are an undeniable force for change. You make our work possible. We are always grateful to have your partnership, and right now we need your help to combat extremism and the bad actors who perpetrate political violence in the Deep South. Friend are you willing to make a donation today to empower the SPLC’s work against far-right movements and more? Every dollar donated goes directly to advancing the civil and human rights that everyone in this country deserves.
