A Silent Revolution in Southern California
Every day, thousands of diesel trucks crisscross the country, making the freight industry a top climate polluter and affecting the health of people all along these routes, especially communities of color near ports and warehouses.
However, changing is on the horizon. Thanks to years of advocacy, the Port of Lose Angeles—one of the world's busiest—is moving towards electric trucks. Emissions from the ports have hindered the state's efforts to cut greenhouse gases. A new law will address this by ensuring that all port trucks in the state are zero-emission by 2035. Read more here.
Urge the EPA to do more on shipping pollution to protect our health and climate.

Getting Off Gas, Block By Block
What’s clear to everyone who has dabbled in decommissioning is that state utility rules need to change if gas retirements are to really take off. High on proponents’ utility reform wish list are financial structures that would make electrification more profitable than perpetuating gas grids. How exactly to do that, however, remains contentious.
Here's what you need to know about the current state of the EV market.

Darkness Visible
Starting in 2018, Dawn Nilson and a team of volunteers counted every single street and porch light in a 4,000-square-mile area. Back in her office, she pored over maps and satellite images. Her efforts were all in service of a single goal: preserving one of the largest remaining parcels of dark skies in the Lower 48.
A new dark-sky sanctuary in rural Oregon will help protect the sight of stars. Discover how Dawn Nilson’s dedication earlier this year made this achievement possible.

Here's How the New Old-Growth Amendment Could Put Forests At Risk
Conservation groups were initially thrilled when President Biden issued an executive order directing his administration to conserve and inventory mature and old-growth forests. In June, the Forest Service released a draft amendment to comply with the order, but it includes numerous logging exceptions. Now, forest advocacy groups are urging their supporters to ask the Forest Service to create a policy that adds stronger protections to these vital ecosystems.
Learn why conservation groups say federal agencies are missing an opportunity to save remaining old growth.
