This is important. We're all in this together.

Dear john,

Labor Day is behind us, football is back, and we’re eight weeks away from the election. Yes, fall is in full swing – and so are our efforts to turn out fellow union members for pro-worker candidates up and down the ballot.

What you need to know:

Get your popcorn ready: Tonight, Vice President Kamala Harris will debate former President Trump for the first time. It’s clear which candidate supports working people. Trump’s actions speak louder than his words. During his time in the White House, he made it harder to organize, made workplaces more dangerous by rolling back crucial safety regulations, and left working families in the dust while doling out billions in tax breaks to his super-rich friends.

We don’t have to predict what he’d do if elected to a second term. Trump supports Project 2025, a right-wing policy agenda that would get rid of all public sector unions, enable corporations to get away with illegal behavior that hurts workers, and gut worker protections by defunding the NLRB and OSHA. You can see the full breadth of how Project 2025 would hurt workers on our Election Resources page.

Vice President Harris, on the other hand, has a lifelong track record of fighting for workers — that’s why she’s been endorsed by the AFL-CIO. She stood with us on picket lines. She fought to enact legislation protecting agricultural and domestic workers in the Senate. She helped save millions of union members’ and retirees’ pensions in the White House. She has committed to signing the Protecting the Right to Organize Act (PRO Act) and continuing the work of the most pro-union administration in history. See the full candidate comparison here.

National Voter Registration Day is one week from today on September 17th, and the deadline to register to vote is October 7th. If you need to register for the first time or update your voter registration, now is the time to do so. Make sure to check out our Election Resources page for important dates and information on how to vote.

Our vote is our voice, and we will be heard in November!

The stakes couldn’t be higher, and we need your help. We’re activating thousands of union members across the state to talk to fellow union members and get out the vote for candidates who will fight for working Texans from the statehouse to the White House. Will you join us?

What We're Doing

The deadline to apply for the Ruth Ellinger Leadership Academy fellows has been extended to Friday, September 20th. This is a year-long, comprehensive leadership development course for union members to train the next labor leaders of Texas. Don't miss your chance!

On September 25th, we’ll be putting on our Annual Golf Tournament in Leander, just north of Austin! This is our main fundraiser for our scholarship program, which helps the children and relatives of union siblings. Buy your tickets and invite a friend!

With just 55 days to go until November 5th, we’re fired up and ready to fight for candidates who will fight for us. Are you?

In Solidarity,

Team Texas AFL-CIO
