My name is Nicole Sidman. I’m a proud Democrat running for the North Carolina State House, and I’m running against Tricia Cotham — the former Democrat who betrayed voters’ trust by switching parties to give NC Republicans a supermajority.

Like most North Carolinians, I was raised to keep my word, tell the truth, and stand up for what I believe in. I believe we deserve leaders that voters can count on to do what’s right — and bring honest representation back to Raleigh.

But my Republican opponent, Tricia Cotham, broke her word and betrayed the same neighbors she swore to serve. Tricia Cotham ran for office in a D+11 seat as a pro-choice Democrat but flipped parties just months after the election.And Tricia didn’t just change parties; she cast the deciding vote for Republicans’ statewide abortion ban.

Here’s the difference between us: I’ve dedicated my life to helping people and protecting a woman’s right to choose.

In college, I escorted women walking into Planned Parenthood past hateful protestors trying to prevent them from getting the healthcare they needed. I went to law school to help people more effectively, and after graduating and passing the bar, I did pro bono work to defend my community’s civil liberties. Now, I serve my community as director of a local nonprofit.

North Carolina deserves better, and the contrast couldn’t be more dramatic. Tricia Cotham needs to go, and when I defeat her, we’ll end the GOP Supermajority, too.
