Hey John, it’s Cicley! 🙂
Last month, I had the honor of attending the Martha’s Vineyard African-American Film Festival. Take a look:
I was honored to participate in multiple events, including meetings and town halls with Black leaders from around the world, film screenings, and opportunities to talk to some of the leading Black film creatives in the country.
One of the main pillars of Black Lives Matter and our work for Black liberation is uplifting Black art and creativity. Art and activism are inherently intertwined. There has been no time in our history when art was not a part of our collective liberation.
Supporting Black creativity is extremely close to my heart, John. Our stories deserve to be treated with respect, care, and passion. We need the space for our stories to take the limelight.
Our stories and art have been relegated to the sidelines for far too long. That’s why Black Lives Matter will continue to show up and show out at events like this. We’re not stopping any time soon.
Can you support our work by contributing anything you can right now? I truly appreciate every contribution from the bottom of my heart!
In love and solidarity,
Cicley Gay
