Birth rates across the Western world are in a free fall. Politicians and talking heads have proposed a raft of policies to combat childlessness. But lost amid this discussion are the small minority of women, about 5 percent, who defy the demographic norm and bear five children or more. Why? Why do these women choose to go against the grain?
Dr. Pakaluk interviewed these women to understand why, like the biblical Hanah, they desire children more than anything else. No public policy discussion of falling birthrates can ignore the findings presented in her work.
Catherine Pakaluk is an associate professor in the Busch School of Business at the Catholic University of America and recipient of the Acton Institute’s Novak Award and the Heritage Foundation’s Freedom and Opportunity Academic Prize.
Please pass this invitation along to anyone you know that might be interested. We hope you'll make plans to join us on September 23. ([link removed])
Sincerely,
Jeffrey O. Nelson, Ph.D.
