Dear Defender,

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread across the U.S., stunningly China
recently reopened its live wildlife markets.

These markets, which sell animals in crowded conditions that are unsafe for both
wildlife and humans, have been identified as the most likely origin of COVID-19.

Experts believe many disease outbreaks in recent decades are rooted in the
exploitation of wildlife - and COVID-19 is the latest catastrophe caused by the
often illegal and unregulated trade of live, wild animals.

Enough is enough! It’s time to end the deadly threat posed to wildlife and
humans by illegal and unregulated wildlife trade!

TAKE ACTION: Sign our petition calling on Congress to take dramatic action to
protect wildlife and people.

The novel coronavirus that’s driven the world into chaos is believed to have
originated in an open-air “live” wildlife market where wild and domestic animals
are kept close together, potentially sold and slaughtered on site, creating
dangerous conditions where viruses can and do spread from animals to humans

And that’s only one part of this tragic story. These markets are often the site
of illegal wildlife trade, which is responsible for driving some of the planet’s
most magnificent animals to the brink of extinction, including elephants,
tigers, rhinos, vaquitas, and numerous other imperiled species.

The United States is one of the largest markets and transit routes for wildlife
products in the world. We must play a leadership role in shutting down the
unregulated markets that so significantly threaten both wildlife and people.

We can’t wait for another disaster to highlight the severe danger posed by the
abuse of wildlife. Please raise your voice today!

Tell Congress we must take a firm, coordinated stand against wildlife
trafficking!
