Friend,
A lot has changed this summer, but our race here in IL-17 is still right where it was – dead-center on the Republicans’ road to holding their House majority.
Our MAGA extremist opponent, Joe McGraw, was recently named to the NRCC’s “Young Guns” list, and national Republicans spent the summer fundraising for him in preparation for the fall. Speaker Johnson came to the district and called McGraw “one of the best” GOP recruits ever, and said flipping IL-17 is “key to keeping the majority.”
Republicans also leaked an internal poll that showed our race tied and tightening. Just a year ago, Democrats had a 6% lead amongst voters. Today, that lead is just 2%, putting our race well within the margin of error.
Trump won IL-17 in both 2016 and 2020, so a race this tight can go either way in November. Can I count on you to help make sure IL-17 says ‘NO’ to Trump and McGraw by delivering a $10 contribution right away? [ [link removed] ]

As the campaign hits full-swing post-Labor Day, we are bracing for Republican dark money to storm our district with misleading, negative ads, but here’s the good news – we have a game plan. With your support of our campaign, we’ve been able to invest in polling that clearly lays out our path to victory in November and I laid it out for you at the end of this email.
On November 5th, we’re going to win because we’re going to turn out a record number of Democrats and once again persuade swing voters in Central and Northwestern Illinois that I am the trusted, common sense candidate in this race. But it will not be easy, or cheap.
We’re going to need to fund get-out-the-vote efforts, direct mail, digital ads, and TV commercials to make sure we get our voters and our message out, so I am going to once again need your help.
Can I count on you to help us put our plan to win into action by chipping in $10 before our September 30th FEC deadline – the last before our election? [ [link removed] ]

Our Plan to Win in November
Step 1: Turn out reliable Democrats. To have any shot at winning in November, we need to make sure our base of Democratic voters who voted in 2022 and 2020 show up again. That means investing in field operations to get those voters registered to vote-by-mail or vote early, so rain or shine on Election Day, we have their support.
Step 2: Turn out infrequent Democratic voters. We know Donald Trump turns out Republican voters who don’t show up in poll numbers. They are an X factor, so we have to create an X factor of our own by turning out other voters Republicans could never expect. To do this, we need to communicate with Democrats who only vote when someone knocks on their door, a good ad interrupts Sunday Night Football, or a friend reminds them to vote.
Step 3: Persuade swing voters. This is the hard part and the most critical, and we have to play on two fronts; we have to give voters our positive vision for the future AND defend ourselves against heinous attacks from Republicans. But here’s what our research tells us, which Republicans haven’t figured out yet: IL-17 Voters want a representative they trust, who is not an extremist, and who will protect their basic freedoms. I first ran for Congress because I’d earned the trust of my neighbors from being their meteorologist on TV for 20 years. We won in 2022 and we’ll win again in 2024 because my Republican opponents have been extremists who’ve misled voters and threatened to take away freedoms.
