Dear Florida Rising Family,
For the last seven years, I’ve had the immense privilege of building Black and Brown community power that creates a Florida where all of us can thrive with hundreds of thousands of voters, community members, organizers, and staff at Florida Rising and our partner organizations.
Together, we’ve grown Florida Rising and our broader movement ecosystem into a force that’s changing lives — one voter registration, one policy victory, and one community at a time.
I’m writing today to let you know that in November, our current Chief of Staff, Victricia Simmons will become our interim director and, in January, I will be leaving my role as Executive Director of Florida Rising, to serve as President and CEO of the Climate and Clean Energy Equity Fund.

Since I came home to Florida eight years ago, we have built something so incredible together. When I started we were 13 people working out of two offices. Today Florida Rising is a team of thousands of volunteers, 1,500 dues paying members, and 88 staff with 8 offices across the state.

This year alone we helped lead a powerful coalition to collect one million signatures to get abortion access on the ballot, ran the largest independent campaign in the August Primary Election, protected public education by defeating extremist Moms for Liberty candidates, and we’re about to knock 600,000 more doors through election day. All of this work is powered by our members, and our incredible team with your support.
Florida Rising has never been just about one person. It’s a movement powered by leaders with support from people like you—people who believe in fighting for justice, equity, and political power for those who have been left behind for far too long.
I am saddened to be leaving this role but excited to become a dues-paying member to fight with Florida Rising for the future Floridians deserve. Will you join me in donating $24 for us to win in 2024 and beyond, [[link removed]] to keep building our ongoing work in Black and Brown communities as we navigate this leadership transition.
Thank you for standing with us and for being an essential part of this journey. I look forward to continuing to fight alongside you in the months and years to come.
Together, we rise!
Forward,
Andrea C. Mercado
Executive Director
