VIDEO OF THE DAY: Republicans caught in bombshell lie
The laughably ignorant, morally bankrupt goons steering the GOP deeper into the abyss just rolled out the dumbest disinformation campaign of the election cycle so far. According to super-plugged-in and very online Republican sources, Haitian immigrants by the tens of thousands have taken over the small town of Springfield, Ohio, and are stealing unsuspecting neighbors' pets and...eating them for dinner. Seriously. Set aside the astoundingly racist and xenophobic nature of these claims, and just focus on the sheer stupidity for a moment. If people were stealing and eating pets you'd think the local police department would be aware of the situation, right? Right? Right. Yeah, no. Springfield police confirmed exactly zero such reports, but that hasn't stop the likes of Elon Musk, Charlie Kirk, Republican Senate candidate Bernie Moreno, or JD frickin' Vance from pouring gasoline on the fire and amplifying the preposterous claims. The Republican Party is officially out of ideas, and so, they are shooting the only arrow they have left in the quiver: fear.

Justice Clarence Thomas faces new recusal demand after wife's alleged message to conservative group
Ginni Thomas is back in the headlines, stirring up fresh controversy for her continued efforts to subvert judicial independence and undermine American democracy. On a late July conference call with supporters, First Liberty CEO Kelly Shackelford was heard reading aloud an email from Justice Clarence Thomas' wife cheering on the radical, right-wing group's efforts to oppose a White House push to legislate Supreme Court term limits and an enforceable ethics code, prompted in part by her husband's previously undisclosed financial ties to GOP billionaire megadonor Harlan Crow, who has footed the bill for numerous lavish vacations and other various living expenses for the Thomases. Ginni Thomas wrote, "YOU GUYS HAVE FILLED THE SAILS OF MANY JUDGES. CAN I JUST TELL YOU, THANK YOU SO, SO, SO MUCH." If you're wondering why this is such a big f*cking deal, it's because First Liberty frequently petitions the high court and is behind a number of landmark conservative victories Justice Thomas helped deliver, including helping families raid precious public school funds to pay for religious school tuition. "The reported comments by Ginni Thomas are deeply problematic," said Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Sen. Dick Durbin in the understatement of the year. Durbin demanded the senior conservative justice recuse himself from future cases involving First Liberty. With precisely no enforceable ethics code in place, however, such a request is little more than wishful thinking. Impeach the motherf*cker already.

Tammy Baldwin’s challenger compares birth control to drug trafficking
Tammy Baldwin for Senate: Mitch McConnell’s hand-picked GOP Senate candidate, California banker Eric Hovde, just said in an interview that the morning after pill is an “abortion” and compared it to trafficking “hard narcotics.” Hovde clearly is extremely ignorant of how reproductive healthcare works and doesn’t understand how important it is to the lives of American women. Tammy Baldwin has been a stalwart defender of reproductive rights for her entire career and will fight tirelessly to enshrine Roe v. Wade at the federal level. Will you donate to support her re-election campaign and protect our Senate majority from Eric Hovde?
Frank Luntz says he’s "never seen a candidate more determined to blow an election" than Trump
Responding to the disgraced ex-president's weekend vow to imprison his political opponents, Republican pollster Frank Luntz wrote, "I have never seen a candidate more determined to blow an election." And yet, thanks in no small part to the mainstream media's incessant "sane-washing" of the MAGA cult leader, the race is STILL a nail-biter.

Conservative activist vows $1 billion investment to "crush liberal dominance"
Leonard Leo, the obscenely wealthy, conservative megadonor and former executive vice president of the Federalist Society, told the Financial Times his latest "nonprofit" group was pledging $1 billion to "crush liberal dominance" in corporate America and target "companies and financial institutions that bend to the woke mind virus," whatever the hell that is. Leo, now the co-chairman of the board of directors at the Federalist Society, spent years elevating radical, right-wing justices to the Supreme Court, resulting in the nightmare, conservative super-majority running roughshod over our constitutional rights today.

Dozens killed from an Israeli strike in a Gaza humanitarian zone, Palestinians say
An Israeli strike on a crowded tent camp housing Palestinians displaced by the war in Gaza killed at least 40 people and wounded 60 others early Tuesday, Palestinian officials said. Israel said it targeted “significant” Hamas militants and disputed the death toll. It was among the deadliest strikes yet in Muwasi, a sprawl of crowded tent camps along the Gaza coast that Israel designated as a humanitarian zone for hundreds of thousands of civilians to seek shelter from the brutal Israel-Hamas war that has claimed the lives of more than 40,000 Palestinians. Gaza's Civil Defense said its first responders recovered 40 bodies from the strike and were still looking for people. It said entire families were killed in their tents. An Associated Press camera operator saw three large craters at the scene, where first responders and displaced people were sifting through the sand and rubble with garden tools and their bare hands by the light of mobile phones. They pulled body parts from the sand, including what appeared to be a human leg.
Mystery group paid influencers tens of thousands to push sexual smears about Kamala Harris
Not so curiously timed with Kamala Harris' meteoric ascent to the top of the Democratic ticket, a network of conservative influencers who had been recruited to push right-wing messages online throughout the summer received a mysterious email requesting they make colorful sexual insults about the vice president, according to Semafor. In return, they would be paid tens of thousands of dollars via Zelle, a digital payments network. The email, titled “War Room – Kamala Messaging,” was followed by a Zoom invitation from the person who organized the group, a man calling himself James Bacon. On the Zoom call, individuals kept their cameras off and did not identify themselves by name. Except for one, that is — disgraced ex-Congressman George Santos, who apparently spoke up in protest of making sexual allegations about Harris before leaving the call. An unidentified person who participated in the group call claims Santos broke the usual anonymity to say he disapproved of the messaging which included comparing Harris to the “Hawk Tuah girl” — a woman who went viral for talking about oral sex — and other crude sexual allegations.

Ron DeSantis insists voter intimidation tactics are no big deal
Florida Governor and Orwellian enthusiast Ron DeSantis doubled down Monday on his decision to dispatch state police to investigate thousands of verified signatures that helped to put a state constitutional amendment protecting the right to abortion on the ballot in November. Last week, the vanquished presidential wannabe requested that election supervisors across several Florida counties submit 36,000 signatures for state review after the Department of State claimed that it had “uncovered evidence of illegal conduct with fraudulent petitions.” One supervisor with 16 years of experience told the Tampa Bay Times that the state’s enormous, last-minute request was entirely unprecedented. DeSantis opposes the ballot measure, of course, so naturally he's weaponizing the state police force to intimidate voters in favor of protecting reproductive rights while insisting it's super normal and appropriate for him to do such a thing. Just another small-government Republican governing small!
The White Stripes sue Trump for using "Seven Nation Army"
“This machine sues fascists,” Jack White wrote on Instagram, in a famous nod to Woody Guthrie. This brings the number of artists who have explicitly prohibited the MAGA cult leader from using their music at his campaign pep rallies to approximately 10,000. You've always got Lee Greenwood, Donald!
